How do I apply?
1. Contact an Energy Management Service Provider to schedule an energy audit of your building:

2. Have your Energy Management Service Provider submit the detailed energy audit (including a minimum of 12 months of historical utility data) to Efficiency NB for pre-approval prior to commencing any project work.
3. Receive a rebate on the energy audit from Efficiency NB as defined under the Available Funding section.
4. Upon approval from Efficiency NB to proceed with energy retrofitting recommendations, you have 18 months to complete all necessary project work.
5. Upon completion of work, submit copies of invoices for all eligible costs within 90 days of project completion.
6. A site inspection of your project will be conducted to confirm technical and financial information accuracy.
7. Receive final payment for eligible work from Efficiency NB

CONDITIONS
- Projects with payback periods of less than one year when bundled with complementary incentives will not qualify for funding under this program.
- You must provide a minimum of 12 months of historical utility data for your building.
- You must have an energy audit conducted by an Energy Management Service Provider registered with Natural Resources Canada. (Please refer to the directory of energy management service providers listed below.)
- You cannot begin any project work prior to conducting an energy audit and receiving pre-approval from Efficiency NB .
- You must agree to grant Efficiency NB permission to access future utility data upon written request.

Start Smart - New Commercial Buildings Incentive Program provides financial incentives of up to $60,000 to offset the costs associated with designing sustainable high efficiency buildings based on estimated annual energy savings. The incentive for an eligible building that meets the criteria is calculated as a one-time financial incentive. The building must be modeled in reference to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings – 1997 (MNECB) to determine the estimated annual energy cost avoidance, and have achieved a performance of 30% or better than the minimum requirements
