Heat Smart
Conserve Nova Scotia provides a 15 % rebate of the installed cost of a solar water heating system for residential, institutional, industrial or commercial use. The maximum provincial rebate is $20,000. Rebates that exceed $20,000 may be considered, and applicants may apply in advance with a detailed project description. Rebates exceeding $20,000 must be pre-approved, and will be provided based on available funding.

Homeowners in existing homes should also consider taking part in the Nova Scotia EnerGuide for Houses program. Under the EnerGuide program existing homes may be eligible for an additional $500 rebate from the Federal government for installing a CAN/CSA approved system for domestic hot water use. Homeowners that take part in the EnerGuide program have the option of receiving one provincial solar water heating rebate:
     1. 15% rebate on the installed cost of the system + the $500 federal rebate, OR
     2. $500 EnerGuide matching provincial rebate + the $500 federal rebate

         * In most cases homeowners will receive a higher rebate if they choose option #1.

Eligibility
- System must be designed for year-round operation. Systems include those used for domestic use, process use, space heating and year-round pool heating.
- System was purchased and installed after January 1, 2008 and before March 31, 2010.
- System’s make and model must be on Natural Resources Canada’s list of approved systems (ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat program).
- System must be installed on a household or facility that is located in Nova Scotia.
- Applicant must be the owner of the household or business where the system is installed.
- Limit of one solar water heating rebate per eligible Nova Scotian household or facility.
- The rebate will only be applied to items relating to the system and its installation. The rebate is not applied to backup heating systems, distribution systems or other non-related items. - The original receipt must be included with the application.
- Applicant agrees to a random inspection/audit by the agents or auditors of Conserve Nova Scotia of the household or facility where the system is installed.
- Applicant to provide a photo of the installed system at the household or facility.
